Apeejay Stya &Svran Group organises6thIOG Dr. Stya Paul Awards 2017

The Apeejay Stya &Svran Group organised the 6th Indian Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IOG) Dr. Stya Paul Awards 2017 which have been instituted to recognise outstanding contributory articles published in the IOG Journal for Basic & Clinical Research, at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi on 22nd Oct. 2017. IOG Journal is a leading peer reviewed indexed medical journal, with wide circulation in India and abroad.

The highlight of the event was an illuminating oration lecture on the topic ‘A Pill in Time Saves Nine’ by Dr. Carolyn Westhoff, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Professor of Epidemiology, Population & Family Health at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health; and Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. A luminary in the field of Gynaecology, Professor Carolyn Westhoff is world’s leading spokespersons in reproductive medicine, endocrinology and infertility.

Mrs.Sushma Paul Berlia, Co-Promoter & President, Apeejay Stya &Svran Group, said, “The oral contraceptive pill is a medical innovation that has dramatically transformed generations, thereby helping women gain incredible freedom and reproductive autonomy. Family planning has also advanced women’s economic empowerment, their educational opportunities and children’s well-being in the long run.”

Dr.Westhoff, in her oration lecture, dwelled on the many facets which establish the oral contraceptive pill as one of the most effective and safe forms of contraception and family planning. She explained that in addition to the overwhelming effect of contraception and reproductive rights, the pill also has numerous non-contraceptive benefits including treatment of various reproductive disorders.

The IOG Dr Stya Paul awards were thoughtfully initiated by the daughter and only child of legendary Dr Stya Paul, Mrs.Sushma Paul Berlia and her husband, Mr Vijay Berlia. This year, a slew of new awards were added including the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Distinguished Chair Award.
