Dr Randeep Guleria is new director of AIIMS-Delhi
Leading pulmonologist Randeep Guleria was appointed as the new Director of the All India nstitute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, on Friday.
Dr. Guleria, who heads the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Disorders at AIIMS, was among the top three contenders whose names were sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for the post.
Dr.Guleria is a Padma Shri awardee credited with the establishment of India’s first centre for pulmonary medicine and sleep disorders at AIIMS.
“The ACC has approved the appointment of Randeep Guleria, Professor and head of Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Disorders at the AIIMS, New Delhi, to the post of Director,” said the statement.
Guleria will hold the post for five years.
Dr. Randeep Guleria is awarded Padma Shri in year 2015. He is a senior consultant Pulmonologist associated with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. He serves as a professor and the head of the department of pulmonary medicine and sleep disorders at AIIMS. He has acquired various awards and honors including “Raj Nanda Pulmonary Disease Fellowship” awarded by Raj Nanda Trust and the Royal College of Physicians, UK jointly in for training and his research. Dr. Randeep has published over 268 research articles and written 36 book chapters.
Dr. Randeep has been the personal physician to Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India. He is an active member of the WHO Scientific Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) working group for influenza vaccination and immunization. He is a consultant on radiation protection in medicine for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna. He is a member of several national bodies including WHO Epidemiology.
