Hyderabad to Host Southeast Asia’s First DynamicARC Proton Therapy System

AIG Hospitals, a leading multispecialty healthcare institution, has unveiled plans to invest ₹800 crore in establishing a dedicated oncology centre at its Gachibowli campus in Hyderabad. This significant investment underscores the hospital’s commitment to advancing cancer care in India and the broader Southeast Asian region.

Introduction of Cutting-Edge Proton Beam Therapy

Central to this initiative is the acquisition of the Proteus-ONE Proton Therapy System, inclusive of the advanced DynamicARC technology, from Belgium-based IBA (Ion Beam Applications S.A.). This collaboration positions AIG Hospitals as the first in Southeast Asia to offer the DynamicARC proton therapy, a highly precise form of radiation treatment that targets tumours with exceptional accuracy, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. This technology is particularly beneficial for treating complex cancers located near critical organs, in both pediatric and adult patients.

Expansion of Oncology Services

The forthcoming 300-bed oncology centre will be integrated within AIG Hospitals’ existing Gachibowli campus, enhancing the facility’s capacity to provide comprehensive cancer care. The centre will encompass a full spectrum of oncology services, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, supportive care, clinical research, and training.

Leadership Perspectives

Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, remarked, “At AIG Hospitals, our unwavering commitment is to place patients at the heart of everything we do. The acquisition of the Proton Beam Therapy System and the strategic partnership with IBA represent a transformative step forward in our mission to provide cutting-edge, compassionate care.”

Vice Chairman P.V.S. Raju added, “The acquisition of Proton Beam Therapy technology aligns perfectly with AIG Hospitals’ vision of providing world-class cancer care within India. This cutting-edge treatment option will further enhance the hospital’s comprehensive suite of cancer care services.”

Advancing Cancer Treatment in India

This strategic investment not only elevates AIG Hospitals’ oncology capabilities but also contributes to India’s growing prominence in delivering advanced cancer treatments. With the introduction of the DynamicARC Proton Therapy System, AIG Hospitals joins an elite group of medical institutions offering this state-of-the-art technology, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s healthcare landscape.
