In a significant stride towards elevating emergency medical services, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal recently conducted an intensive workshop titled ‘PACTEM 2025’ focusing on Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in trauma and emergency care. This initiative underscores AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge diagnostic tools to improve patient outcomes in critical situations.

POCUS is a rapid diagnostic modality that allows healthcare professionals to perform immediate, bedside ultrasounds, facilitating swift and accurate clinical decisions. Unlike traditional comprehensive ultrasounds, POCUS is designed to answer specific clinical questions in real-time, making it indispensable in emergency settings.

Dr. Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, emphasized the transformative potential of POCUS, stating, “In emergency medicine, every second counts. The ability to perform rapid and accurate diagnostics at the patient’s side can significantly alter outcomes. POCUS empowers our clinicians to make immediate, informed decisions, thereby enhancing the quality of care we provide.”

The ‘PACTEM 2025’ workshop was meticulously designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in utilizing POCUS for various emergency scenarios. The curriculum encompassed simulation exercises, detailed case studies, and interactive sessions led by seasoned medical educators. A high faculty-to-participant ratio ensured personalized instruction, enabling attendees to gain proficiency in this vital skill.

Dr. Sunil Malik, President of AIIMS Bhopal, highlighted the institution’s dedication to continuous improvement in emergency care, stating, “Emergency medicine is the face of any hospital. Continuous advancements and training in this field are paramount to our mission of providing exceptional patient care.”

The Department of Trauma and Emergency Medicine at AIIMS Bhopal, under the leadership of Dr. Bupeshwari Patel, Dr. Pooja Thaware, and Dr. Saurabh Trivedi, played a pivotal role in organizing the workshop. Their collective efforts ensured that the program was comprehensive, engaging, and aligned with the latest advancements in emergency medical care.

AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to enhancing emergency services is further evidenced by its state-of-the-art Trauma and Emergency Department, established on August 1, 2018. The department operates 24/7, providing immediate and specialized care to critically ill patients. With an average of over 230 patients served daily, the department remains indispensable to the community. The introduction of Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulance services further demonstrates the institution’s dedication to extending immediate medical assistance beyond hospital premises.

The successful execution of the ‘PACTEM 2025’ workshop marks a significant milestone in AIIMS Bhopal’s ongoing efforts to integrate innovative diagnostic tools into emergency care. By equipping healthcare professionals with POCUS skills, the institution is poised to enhance patient outcomes, reduce wait times for critical procedures, and improve overall trauma survival rates.
