Global technology company Amazon has launched a new healthcare artificial intelligence assistant on its website and mobile application, expanding access to digital health guidance for millions of users and marking another step in the company’s growing push into healthcare services.

The AI-powered assistant, called Health AI, is designed to help users understand medical information, assess symptoms, and navigate healthcare services directly through Amazon’s digital platforms. Previously available only to members of Amazon One Medical, the tool is now being expanded to a broader user base across the company’s online ecosystem.

According to the company, the assistant can explain lab results, answer questions about medications, provide guidance for common health conditions, and connect users with licensed healthcare providers when needed. The system supports assistance for more than 30 non-emergency health conditions, including issues such as acne, allergies, diabetes, and sleep apnea.

Amazon said the tool is designed to reduce the logistical and informational barriers that often complicate healthcare access, enabling patients and clinicians to focus more on treatment and care delivery. The assistant can also help schedule consultations and facilitate communication with healthcare professionals when a condition requires clinical attention.

Users do not need to be Amazon Prime subscribers or One Medical members to access the AI assistant, and the company said the service will initially be available free of charge for general health queries. When professional medical consultation is required, users may be directed to a provider through telehealth services offered by Amazon’s healthcare network.

The AI assistant can optionally access a user’s medical data—including lab reports, medical records, and clinical notes—with explicit consent, allowing the system to provide more personalized health guidance. It may also analyze health-related purchases such as blood pressure monitors or supplements to offer contextual follow-up suggestions.

Amazon emphasized that interactions with the assistant operate within a HIPAA-compliant environment, incorporating encryption and strict access controls to protect sensitive health information.

The launch reflects a broader trend of technology companies integrating artificial intelligence into healthcare services, aiming to improve patient engagement, streamline healthcare navigation, and expand access to digital health support. Analysts note that such platforms could play a growing role in telehealth ecosystems by assisting with routine medical queries and directing patients to appropriate care pathways.

With the introduction of Health AI across its digital platforms, Amazon continues to expand its footprint in healthcare, complementing its existing services in pharmacy, telehealth consultations, and health data management.
