Today Merck Specialities Pvt Ltd proudly announces the launch of a unique painting exhibition dedicated to raising awareness about bladder cancer for their employees under the initiative “Art Against Cancer.” The exhibition was inaugurated at their Vikhroli Head office.

The exhibition comes as part of the observance of Bladder Cancer Awareness Month in May, with May 31st also marked as World No Tobacco Day, highlighting the strong link between smoking and the risk of bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer is the 17th most common cancer in India and overall awareness about this deadly disease in India is much less compared to other major cancers. Studies have shown that smoking is the single most significant risk factor for bladder cancer, emphasizing the importance of awareness and preventive measures.

One of the common symptoms of bladder cancer is a change in urine color, such as red, pink, orange, or brown. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment outcomes. Studies have shown that the risk of bladder cancer due to tobacco smoking is significantly high, with a 50–65% risk in men and a 20–30% risk in women. Cigarette smoking triples the risk of bladder cancer relative to non-smokers.

The “Art Against Cancer” exhibition features a diverse collection of artworks crafted by talented artists from leading art schools in India. Each piece offers a unique interpretation of the theme and demonstrates the artists’ support for the fight against bladder cancer. The exhibition aims to inspire, educate, and initiate meaningful conversations about the disease and its impact on individuals and communities.

Pratima Reddy, Managing Director of Merck Specialities Pvt Ltd, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “We are excited to introduce ‘Art Against Cancer’ as part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness about bladder cancer. Merck Specialities Pvt Ltd is committed to working hand in hand with healthcare professionals ‘As one for patient’ and will be organizing similar exhibitions across different parts of India to spark meaningful conversations, promote early detection, and encourage support for bladder cancer patients.”
