As part of National Doctors Day, AMC Mumbai (Association of Medical Consultants) launched three initiatives on 3rd July, that will contribute to and uplift the health and well-being of the community. The campaigns were announced yesterday in an event held in Mumbai, where members came together to celebrate their 51st anniversary as an association. At the event, Padmashree awardee Dr Himmatrao Bawaskar and Dr Suresh Rao were felicitated for their colossal contribution towards the work done for the poor and downtrodden.

The campaign #BreathAfterDeath is an initiative that will highlight the importance of organ donation. The doctor-members of AMC have pledged to donate their organs in a bid to create awareness and encourage fellow-doctors, patients, and the community at large to contribute to this noble cause. According to Organ India, a Delhi based NGO, at least 15 patients die every day waiting for organs and every 10 minutes a new name is added to this waiting list. The beauty of organ donation is that 1 person can save 8 lives or make their quality of life better while alive. Hence, creating awareness around organ donations becomes paramount in saving lives.

The second campaign #BreathwithEase is a tree plantation drive undertaken by the association with an aim to reduce carbon footprint, save the soil, enhance the environment and empower the farmer in Marathwada. Members will highlight their contribution in their area of practice and spread the word thus encouraging others to follow suit. AMC Mumbai has also announced free AMC clinics by private doctors to people who are unable to afford quality healthcare.

Dr. Nilima Vaidya Bhamare, President, AMC said “As doctors our duty is not only limited to saving lives, but also to work towards the betterment of society. The unique aspect of these campaigns is to ‘lead by example’, we will take the first step and thereby encourage others to do the same. #BreathAfterDeath is a special campaign where our member-doctors who have pledged their organs will be given a poster certificate to put up in their clinics to increase visibility among patients and family members. Doctors will also educate and encourage every patient thus spreading the word for this noble cause.

#BreathewithEase is a yet another unique initiative where our doctors will plant a fruit tree on the farmer’s land on the occasion of their birthday, with an aim to plant 12000 trees. ‘Walk the Talk’ is what we swear by, we as an association believe in doing it ourselves first so that we can inspire others to do the same. Our third initiative will tackle the issue of quality healthcare for the poor, wherein our private doctors will reach out to the poor and needy through free clinics and medical camps, details of which shall be uploaded on our website”.

Our association of 12,000 members are driven and motivated to work towards the health and well-being of our community. AMC not only works towards the betterment and development of the medical fraternity but also provides a platform for doctors to fulfil their purpose beyond professional commitments.
