In a serious breach of security, several units of blood and plasma were stolen from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal. Authorities have confirmed that one suspect has been booked in connection with the case, while investigations are ongoing to trace the missing medical supplies and identify possible accomplices.

The theft came to light during routine verification when hospital staff detected discrepancies in the storage records of the blood bank. AIIMS Bhopal management immediately notified the local police, who registered a case and launched a detailed probe. Officials are reviewing surveillance footage and security protocols to determine how the incident occurred.

A senior police officer stated, “One person has been booked and further interrogation is underway. We are investigating whether others may have been involved in facilitating the theft. Our teams are closely coordinating with hospital authorities to recover the stolen units at the earliest.”

Responding to the incident, AIIMS Bhopal management expressed concern and assured that the safety of patients remains their top priority. Dr. [Name], Director of AIIMS Bhopal, said: “We deeply regret this unfortunate occurrence and are extending full cooperation to the investigating authorities. The hospital continues to maintain sufficient reserves of blood and plasma to meet medical needs, and patient care remains unaffected. At the same time, we are taking corrective steps to strengthen internal checks and upgrade security protocols to prevent such lapses in the future.”

Healthcare experts have noted that such thefts highlight the urgent need for stronger monitoring systems in medical institutions, especially for life-saving resources such as blood and plasma. The incident has raised broader concerns about the safeguarding of critical medical supplies across the country.

As investigations continue, AIIMS Bhopal has reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services for patients.
