Rekha Gupta inaugurated a range of significant healthcare infrastructure upgrades on Saturday, reinforcing the city’s commitment to comprehensive and holistic healthcare services. At Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, the Chief Minister officially opened a new 10-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a GI HD Video Endoscopy Suite, designed to elevate diagnostic capabilities and enhance the quality of critical care for patients in India’s capital.
In addition to these facility enhancements, the Chief Minister also launched an Integrated AYUSH Stress Management Programme to address rising stress and lifestyle-related health concerns among the city’s residents. The programme, rooted in traditional Indian systems of medicine, aims to provide accessible stress management solutions, including yoga, lifestyle counselling and preventative health strategies, as part of a broader push for holistic well-being within the public health ecosystem.
During the event, CM Gupta emphasised the government’s determination to upgrade Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure and deliver world-class medical services to all citizens. She noted that the upgraded ICU and endoscopy facilities are equipped with advanced technology to support timely, high-quality care for critically ill patients and improve early detection of gastrointestinal disorders, respectively.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new outpatient building at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), aimed at expanding mental health services and reducing patient wait times. This development is expected to streamline outpatient services and enhance care access for thousands of patients who rely on the institute’s specialised mental health treatments.
Officials and dignitaries at the ceremony included the Pankaj Kumar Singh, local members of the legislative assembly, healthcare administrators, and senior officials from the Delhi Health Department, all of whom underscored the importance of strengthening the city’s healthcare delivery capacity.
These developments are part of the Delhi government’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare infrastructure, integrate traditional and modern medical practices, and improve overall health outcomes. The expanded ICU and endoscopy facilities, combined with the stress management initiative and future outpatient services, are expected to benefit a wide spectrum of patients across East Delhi and the wider National Capital Region.
