In a landmark initiative to integrate traditional knowledge with modern technology, the Ministry of Ayush has announced the launch of “DRAVYA” — Digital Repository of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy Substances, a comprehensive online platform aimed at cataloguing and digitizing key medicinal substances used in Ayush systems. The portal will begin by documenting 100 Ayush substances in its first phase, paving the way for a scientific, data-driven approach to India’s rich heritage of traditional medicine.

Developed with the objective of creating a centralized, authenticated, and easily accessible digital repository, the DRAVYA portal will serve as a vital reference for researchers, practitioners, students, and industry experts. It will include detailed information on the identity, sources, properties, and therapeutic uses of Ayush substances, along with references from authoritative classical texts and research publications.

Speaking at the launch, [Name of Minister/Official, e.g., Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Ayush] stated, “DRAVYA represents our commitment to blending traditional wisdom with modern digital tools. This initiative will not only preserve India’s ancient medicinal knowledge but also make it globally relevant and accessible through scientific validation and documentation.”

The first phase of the DRAVYA portal will focus on 100 widely used Ayurvedic, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathic substances. Subsequent phases will expand the database to include thousands of entries, encompassing diverse categories of natural resources, including herbs, minerals, and marine products used in traditional medicine.

Experts from premier Ayush research councils, national institutes, and academic bodies have collaborated in the creation of the portal, ensuring data authenticity and cross-referencing with existing pharmacopoeias. The platform also aims to support research, innovation, and product development by providing verified information that bridges traditional formulations with modern pharmacological studies.

By digitizing India’s traditional medicine knowledge base, the DRAVYA portal aligns with the government’s larger vision of promoting e-governance, knowledge dissemination, and global recognition of Ayush systems. It stands as a milestone in the journey toward evidence-based integration of Ayush practices into mainstream healthcare.
