Thousands of enthusiastic runners took to the streets of Thane to participate in the first edition of the Torrent JITO Thane Half Marathon 2022. With ‘Run For Cancer’ as the central theme, the race bought together people of all ages, abilities, and various walks of life. The event kicked off at Raymond Ground, with the race passing through various scenic neighborhoods in Thane before the runners finally circled back to the finish line. The participants ran across three categories – Half Marathon (21 km), 10 km race, and a 5 km race.
Actor-Model ‘Ironman’ Milind Soman flagged-off the 10 km & 5 km runs. Prominent dignitaries including Shri Eknath Shinde, Minister of Urban Development and Public Works, Government of Maharashtra, Dr. Shrikant Shinde, Member of Parliament (Loksabha), Dr. Vipin Sharma, Thane Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Shri Mahendra Jain, Chairman, JITO Thane Chapter, Shri Ajay Ashar, Managing Trustee, JITO Education and Medical Trust and Shri Prithviraj Kothari, JITO Apex Head.
Torrent JITO Thane Half Marathon witnessed participation by cancer survivors with a 71-year-old cancer survivor, Meera Parekh running in the 21 km half marathon. Total prize money of Rs. 18 Lakhs was distributed to the winners across various categories. Aspiring amateur runners took part in the 5 km race while running enthusiasts participated in the 10 km race.
“The main objective of this half marathon was to create awareness for cancer. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners, participants, and people of diverse backgrounds who came together to support this noble cause. This event was a great opportunity for anyone who wanted to run for a purpose to defeat cancer. With the maiden event gaining immense popularity we believe JITO Thane Half Marathon will soon become the most anticipated sporting event in Thane region” said Mr. Ajay Ashar, Managing Trustee, JITO Education and Medical Trust.
“We are extremely delighted with the overwhelming response we have received for the first edition of the Torrent JITO Thane Half Marathon. The event was a highly inclusive event that represented people of all ages, gender, and sporting abilities. It was very encouraging for us to witness thousands of runners and spectators from Thane, Mumbai and other parts of India participate in the first racing event in the region post-pandemic. We are extremely grateful to our partners who have supported us in making this half marathon a resounding success” said Mr. Mahendra Jain, Chairman, JITO Thane Chapter.
Torrent JITO Thane Half Marathon was organized by Jain International Trade Organization (JITO Thane) and JITO Educational and Medical Trust in collaboration with Thane Municipal Corporation, Tata Memorial Hospital, CREDAI-MCHI Thane, and Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital.
