The Indian government has placed the largest order of vaccines so far. According to reports, it is procuring 660 million doses of Covaxin and Covishield the estimated worth of which is 145.05 billion Indian Rupees. This would help it meet the projections it has made in the Supreme Court regarding vaccine availability.

On June 26, 2021, the government had submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court in which it had stated that 1.35 billion doses were available for use between August and September. Additionally, the government has also procured nearly 300 million doses of Hyderabad based Biological-E’s Corbevax vaccine.

Goal to Vaccinate India’s 18+ Population by Year’s End

The government’s move is in line with its goal to vaccinate the country’s 18+ population by the end of the year 2021. To achieve this the government is also procuring Sputnik V and Zydus Cadila’s vaccines along with Covaxin, Covishield, and Corbevax.
