On the occasion of World Heart Day, Manipal Hospitals, Bangalore, multi-specialty healthcare chain, today rolled out QR codes, a quick digital innovative solution to provide First Aid care and medical services to people with cardiac emergencies. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Deepak Venugopalan, Regional COO, Bengaluru Cluster, Mysuru and Salem who shared his insights and views on the importance of knowing CPR skills and the recently-launched QR Codes which will help people with cardiac emergencies. This initiative led by Manipal Hospitals with support of BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike), and Bangalore City Traffic Police will make Bengaluru a Heart Smart City.

Manipal Hospitals organized CPR Training, which was open to all. The event aimed at providing CPR training to the general public to prepare them to save the lives of infants, children, and adults during cardiac emergencies. In India, about 4,280 people per one lakh population are estimated to experience cardiac arrest. Though CPR or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is a life-saving technique, only less than 2 percent of India’s population know how to use it effectively.

The QR codes launched by Manipal Hospitals are posted at all traffic signal junctions in Bangalore for use during medical emergencies. These codes can help the concerned / affected person connect to the emergency number, from where at a single click, the person will be directed to ambulance service.

On this World Heart Day, the innovation was on the go through installing QR codes that helped Bengaluru have a quick shift around during emergency services.

At the time of medical emergencies, it is hard to have presence of mind and remember numbers. Keeping this in mind, we came up with QR codes that are installed across all signals with the help of Bengaluru City Traffic Police.”

Manipal Hospitals has also rolled out another QR code that navigates people through the correct steps involved in CPR. The code explains the steps to be followed to help revive the affected person.

The CPR training was organized by Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road, with the help of a CPR machine (dummy). The red and green lights on the dummy indicated the compression level exerted on the chest during the CPR, with the green blink indicating the right amount of pressure applied on the affected person.
