Marengo CIMS Hospital has achieved a significant milestone, marking over 250 successful bone marrow transplants (BMTs) in its state-of-the-art Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit. The achievement highlights the hospital’s advanced clinical capabilities and its commitment to life-saving patient care.

Expanding Capability in Complex Transplants
Over the past two years, Marengo CIMS has demonstrated growing strength in handling high-risk transplant procedures, including:

Haploidentical (half-match) transplants

Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD) transplants

Allogeneic full-match transplants

The centre has also built expertise in paediatric BMT, executing transplants successfully in children under the age of two. Advanced techniques such as T‑cell engineering and ex vivo depletion are routinely used to reduce complications like Graft-Versus-Host Disease (GVHD).

Voices of Clinical Leadership
Dr. R. Shankaran, Unit Medical Director at Marengo CIMS, said:
“Crossing the 250‑plus BMT milestone is a proud moment for our entire team. It reflects our clinical expertise, state‑of‑the‑art facilities, and commitment to delivering life‑saving treatments that meet global standards of excellence.”
Dr. Raajiv Singhal, Managing Director & Group CEO of Marengo Asia Hospitals, added:
“This achievement is a testament to relentless dedication and our patient‑centric approach.”

Infrastructure Breakthrough: HEPA‑Filtered, Step‑Down BMT Unit
Marengo CIMS inaugurated a cutting-edge six-bed, HEPA‑filtered step‑down unit tailored for pre- and post-transplant care. Equipped with positively pressurized rooms, in-house total body irradiation, and stem cell harvest facilities, the unit supports both autologous and allogeneic transplants, with a specialist team trained for paediatric and adult BMT cases.

Transforming Access with Affordable Care
Founded in partnership with Sankalp India Foundation and supported by Cure2Children, the BMT unit was inaugurated in 2017 to bring affordable, high-quality stem-cell transplantation to Indian families. It now stands as one of the most active centres in the region providing equitable access to curative treatments, particularly for blood disorders like thalassemia and leukaemia. Previous reports highlighted that the unit had already delivered 150 paediatric BMTs with survival rates exceeding 96% in matched sibling transplants.

A Milestone in Indian Hemato-Oncology
Achieving the 250+ transplant mark places Marengo CIMS among a growing cadre of leading institutions advancing stem cell therapy in India. With success in both routine and high-risk cases, including young children, the facility is emerging as a beacon for clinical excellence, innovation, and compassionate care. Its approach underlines India’s potential to deliver global-standard treatment at practical costs.

Marengo CIMS aims to scale further by increasing bed capacity, broadening access for diverse patient profiles, and extending its clinical footprint through collaboration and public health outreach. The centre is particularly focused on expanding paediatric BMT programs, enhancing training for clinicians, and sustaining research-driven practices to remain at the forefront of stem cell therapy innovation.
