The pioneering surgeries were performed on two patients—an elderly individual with a hip fracture and another suffering from advanced hip arthritis, both presenting multiple comorbidities.

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Dr Ramneek Mahajan and his team at Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi, have successfully performed India’s first Total Hip Replacement surgery using INSIGNIA STEM, a technologically advanced hip implant designed to improve outcomes in patients. This milestone highlights the hospital’s ongoing commitment to bringing innovative medical solutions to its patients.

The expertise of the orthopaedic team was crucial in successfully performing these specialized surgeries. The first patient, a 73-year-old with a fractured right hip, also had a history of Parkinson’s disease and psychosis, which required a tailored treatment plan. The second patient, aged 69, had been experiencing severe pain and limited mobility for months due to avascular necrosis. Both patients underwent total hip replacement surgeries using the advanced INSIGNIA STEM implant, which is specifically designed to address the unique challenges faced by elderly patients with complex health conditions.

By using the INSIGNIA STEM, the orthopedic team achieved optimal results. The implant’s superior customization, fit, and fixation ensured greater precision during the procedure, leading to better long-term outcomes. These advancements resulted in quicker recovery times and improved mobility, making a significant difference in both patients’ quality of life. Both were discharged with stable vitals, healthy suture lines, and the ability to move without pain—an achievement that highlights the importance of innovative surgical solutions in enhancing patient care.

Dr Ramneek Mahajan, Senior Director of Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement at Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, led the surgeries and expressed his enthusiasm stating, “Life is mobility, and mobility is life. We are thrilled to announce launch of the INSIGNIA STEM for hip replacement in India for the first time, at Max Super Specialty Hospital Saket. This innovative technology offers key benefits such as a customizable fit, enhanced fixation, and long-term durability. For patients, this translates to improved functional outcomes, faster recovery, and a potentially lower risk of complications in the long run”.

Max Healthcare has long been a pioneer in introducing innovative technologies in India. From being the first to introduce the Triathlon Knee and perform MAKO robotic surgeries in Delhi to now using the INSIGNIA STEM, Max Healthcare continues to lead the way in revolutionizing orthopaedic care. These advancements not only provide significant improvements in patient outcomes but also serve as a model for other hospitals across the country to follow.

With this milestone, Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, reaffirms its position as a premier destination for orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeries, setting a new benchmark in the field of advanced medical technologies.
