Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC) is setting new benchmark in
patient comfort through the use of conscious sedation techniques at the Department of
Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. This approach ensures that children with dental phobia
receive treatments in a comfortable and anxiety-free environment.

Conscious sedation, commonly administered via nitrous oxide also called laughing gas, allows
patients to remain relaxed and responsive during procedures and experience minimal to no side
effects. The sedation has a rapid onset and recovery, typically within minutes, making it ideal for
outpatient dental treatments. When combined with local anesthesia, it effectively reduces pain
perception, especially for young patients and those with special healthcare needs.

The patient’s parents have expressed their satisfaction with this approach. I was really nervous
about how my child would handle the dental procedure, but the nitrous oxide made such a
difference. She stayed calm, cooperative, and didn’t feel any pain. The doctor explained
everything so well, and we both left the clinic smiling. I am grateful for this gentle approach,
said Suman Kumari, Mother of Anaisha.

Another parent, Manvika, Mother of Amanat, said, My daughter has always been anxious about
her dental visits, so I was relieved when the dentist suggested laughing gas. From start to finish,
it was smooth. The mask was easy for her to use, and she stayed calm and even giggled a few
times. Afterwards, she said it wasn’t scary at all.

MRDC & Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry is equipped with advanced sedation
equipment and continuous patient monitoring systems, ensuring the highest standards of safety.
The dental team is extensively trained and certified in sedation protocols, adhering to national
and international guidelines.

Dr. Tanu Nangia, Head of the Department of Pedodontics, MRDC said, “With conscious
sedation, we aim to reduce the fear associated with dental visits and make essential treatments
more accessible and stress-free, especially for our pediatric patients. It reflects our broader vision
of compassionate, patient-centered dental care.”

Dr. Puneet Batra, Pro Vice Chancellor, Health Sciences & Principal, MRDC, added
“Importantly, this technique enhances patient cooperation, leading to improved clinical
outcomes. It underscores our focus on integrating effective techniques that advance pediatric
dental care and improve patient experiences.”

The facility also serves as a training ground for budding dental professionals, offering hands-on
experience in delivering advanced, patient-friendly care.
