The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Bharati Kulkarni as the new Director of the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), effective January 1, 2025. Dr. Kulkarni, an esteemed physician and scientist, brings over two decades of dedicated service and expertise in public health nutrition to this prestigious role.

Dr. Kulkarni’s academic journey is distinguished by a specialization in pediatrics from Pune University, a Master’s degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a doctoral degree from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Her tenure at ICMR-NIN spans more than 20 years, during which she has been instrumental in leading several large multi-centric research projects addressing critical public health nutrition challenges.

In the past three years, Dr. Kulkarni has served as the Head of the Division of Reproductive and Child Health and Nutrition at ICMR, further solidifying her leadership in the field. Her scholarly contributions include over 130 publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed international journals, reflecting her commitment to advancing nutritional science. Her work has been recognized with prestigious oration awards, including those in honor of Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas and Dr. P.G. Tulpule. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India, underscoring her significant contributions to medical research and public health.
