Policy Mahotsav 2.0, held on 23rd May 2025 at the Constitution Club of India, concluded with resounding success, reinforcing India’s pivotal role in shaping the global MedTech narrative. Centered on the theme “Policy, Regulation, and Public Good: Building the MedTech Industry for Tomorrow’s Healthcare,” the conference brought together government officials, industry leaders, regulators, innovators, and healthcare strategists for a full day of high-impact discussions, visionary insights, and collaborative actions.

Hosted by Medgate Today and supported by key industry stakeholders, the event served as a powerful platform to align policy innovation with industry growth, aiming to transform India into a global MedTech powerhouse while ensuring equity, access, and sustainability.

Opening with Visionary Momentum

The day began with an inspiring inaugural session led by Mr. Afzal Kamal, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Medgate Today, and Founding Chairman of Global Medtech Advocacy & Advisory Forum (GMAAF) who welcomed the delegates and laid the tone for the event. Mr. Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator of AIMED, underscored India’s evolving policy engine as a vehicle for global health leadership. Eminent speakers including Mr. Sunil Khurana (Executive Chairman, BPL Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. Upasana Arora (Managing Director, Yashoda Medicity), Dr. Jitendra Sharma (Managing Director & Founder, AMTZ), Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha (DG, SEPC), and Praveen Kumar Mittal (Executive Director, EPCMD) offered compelling calls to action for fostering innovation and regulatory excellence in the MedTech sector.

What we have started here will echo in the future of global healthcare,” said Afzal Kamal, emphasizing the forum’s catalytic role in charting a visionary MedTech roadmap for India.

Mr. Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator of AIMED, highlighted India’s role on the global stage:

“India’s MedTech story is one of resilience and rising global relevance. We need to build a regulatory framework that protects innovation, nurtures manufacturers, and upholds patient safety — all while becoming a dependable MedTech partner for the world.”

Mr. Sunil Khurana, Executive Chairman of BPL Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd., reflected on the sector’s transformation:

“From ‘Make in India’ to ‘Lead from India’ — that’s the real policy goal. With strong vision, unified industry-government collaboration, and quality-first approaches, India can set the gold standard in MedTech manufacturing and innovation.”

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Founder of AMTZ, emphasized self-reliance through innovation:

“MedTech is not just a sector, it’s a strategic capability. Through aligned policies and indigenous innovation ecosystems, India can leapfrog into global leadership — especially for the Global South.”

Dr. Upasana Arora, MD of Yashoda Medicity, spoke on the importance of inclusivity in policy and innovation:

“Policy must serve both progress and people. We need to ensure that MedTech innovation is not only cutting-edge but also affordable, accessible, and inclusive — especially for women, children, and underserved communities.”

Panel Discussion I — India’s Policy Narrative: From Self-Reliance to Global Relevance

Moderated by Dr. P.S. Chandranand , this panel explored how India can transition from being a self-sufficient MedTech manufacturing base to a globally trusted supplier. Panelists from ICMR, Apollo Hospitals, GIMS, and AIMED discussed policy pathways for local innovation, international collaboration, and capacity building.

Panel Discussion II — Regulating the Healthcare Value Chain: Product & Service

Led by Mr. Anil Jauhri (Former CEO, NABCB), this session brought together voices from BIS, AHPI, NHSRC, ICMR, and SEPC to dissect current regulatory mechanisms and propose holistic frameworks that link patient safety with product standards, service quality, and clinical excellence.

Panel Discussion III — MedTech in a Multipolar World

As geopolitical dynamics reshape global supply chains, this session examined India’s opportunity to lead in the Global South. Panelists from SMT, BD, Time Medical, & Allied Medical, called for agile policy structures, IP protection, and R&D incentives to make India the innovation hub for emerging economies.

Panel Discussion IV — CEO Roundtable: Reimagining India as a Global MedTech Hub

This high-powered roundtable, featuring leaders from AMTZ, Apollo Hospitals, BPL Technologies, Beacon Diagnostics, and ClearMedi, provided sharp strategic insights into the future of India’s MedTech ecosystem — including policy harmonization, export promotion, public-private partnerships, and health technology assessment.

Panel Discussion V — Diagnostics as the First Line of Defense

Moderated by Dr. Muthu Dhandapani, this closing panel emphasized diagnostics as the fulcrum of preventive care. Leaders from J Mitra, Dang Labs, Mahajan Imaging, WHO SEARO, and others discussed affordability, accuracy, and the need for enabling policies to make diagnostics universally accessible.
