The combination of extreme heat and high humidity is putting considerable strain on people’s overall health this season. We are seeing a spike in cases of persistent headaches, dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps, dehydration, and poor sleep quality. Individuals with chronic conditions like asthma are particularly vulnerable—the heavy, moisture-laden air can worsen respiratory discomfort. High humidity also interferes with the body’s natural cooling mechanism by limiting the evaporation of sweat, which leads to overheating and increases the risk of heat exhaustion or even heatstroke.

To stay healthy and avoid complications, especially during the hottest parts of the day—typically between 12 pm and 4 pm—people should stay indoors as much as possible, wear loose, breathable cotton clothing, and use umbrellas or hats if venturing outside is unavoidable. Staying well-hydrated by drinking water regularly, even if you’re not feeling thirsty, is crucial.

At home, use ceiling fans or air conditioning where possible to maintain a cool environment. You can also use damp towels, cool showers, or wet cloths on the back of your neck to help regulate body temperature. Avoid heavy, greasy foods during peak heat and instead opt for lighter, water-rich meals like fruits, salads, and vegetables. Incorporating stress-relieving practices such as yoga, meditation, and adequate rest can go a long way in managing heat-induced health issues and sustaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle during these harsh summer months.
