- Signify has been at the forefront of UV-C technology for over 35 years and aims to touch one lakh lives with this initiative
Signify Innovations India Limited has partnered with People-to-people health foundation (PPHF) to enhance the personal safety of frontline COVID warriors in Delhi using UV-C Lighting. Under this initiative, the company is installing 160 of its UV-C Disinfection Chambers across 44 hospitals & 26 police stations in Delhi. This initiative is also supported by the office of Delhi Dy. CM.
These chambers use UV-C technology to disinfect the surfaces of high touch objects such as visitor tags, phones, bags, laptops, wallets, and glasses etc. in a matter of minutes depending on the size of the object. The technology used in these chambers has been tested at National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEILD) at Boston University and the laboratory of Department of Materials Engineering at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to effectively deactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Sumit Joshi, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Signify Innovations India said, “Signify has always stood for a cause that aims at giving back to the society. These are trying times for all of us and we are more than happy to step forward and help those in need. The UV-C technology has proven to be very effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and we aim to help the society with our innovations in this sector. The coronavirus continues to impact society and this initiative will help these few people stay safe and sanitized, especially the most vulnerable.”
The drive is a part of Signify’s larger effort to enhance the personal safety of frontline workers like doctors and policemen, and other vulnerable sections of the society such as elderly people in old age homes, by equipping them with efficient UV-C based sanitization systems. This concerted effort by Signify will support over 250 hospitals, 90 police stations and 30 old age homes across 18 cities in the country, positively impacting over one lakh people. By safeguarding them, the company aims to ensure that these frontline workers can continue to do their noble and critical work, for which the country is grateful to them.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Laxmikant Palo, Chief Executive officer, People to People Health Foundation (PPHF) said, “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dy. CM Office & Delhi Police commissioner office for supporting this cause and to Signify Innovations India for providing the latest technology that will keep our frontline warriors and the elderly in our society safe and healthy.”
UV-C light should always be used in accordance with the safety requirements and instructions to avoid humans and animals from being exposed to it since it can damage their skin and eyes.
