In a landmark development poised to strengthen India’s medical research ecosystem, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, inaugurated the Central Research Laboratory (CRL) at AIIMS Bhubaneswar today. The advanced facility is expected to serve as a critical hub for interdisciplinary research, innovation, and translational science in the Eastern region of the country.

The CRL is equipped with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure aimed at facilitating high-quality research across various domains including molecular biology, genomics, microbiology, pathology, and biomedical innovation. This initiative is in line with the Government of India’s broader vision of promoting “Research-Driven Healthcare” and advancing India’s stature as a global center for medical science.

A Major Leap Toward Research-Integrated Healthcare
Addressing the gathering, Shri Nadda emphasized the need for integrating evidence-based research into clinical practice and healthcare policymaking.
“The establishment of the Central Research Laboratory at AIIMS Bhubaneswar marks a new chapter in the institute’s journey toward academic and scientific excellence. This facility will empower young researchers, clinicians, and students to translate knowledge into impactful innovations for public health,” he stated.

He further highlighted the pivotal role AIIMS Bhubaneswar is playing in bridging the gap between regional healthcare challenges and national health goals, particularly through advanced research initiatives.

Facility Highlights:
Advanced Instrumentation: Equipped with high-throughput sequencing, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, and bioinformatics platforms.

Collaborative Research Spaces: Designed to foster multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional collaboration.

Training & Capacity Building: Offers structured programs for faculty, postgraduate students, and research fellows.

Translational Focus: Emphasizes bench-to-bedside innovation for diagnostics, therapeutics, and public health interventions.

Strategic Significance
With the launch of this research facility, AIIMS Bhubaneswar strengthens its position as a national center of academic excellence, capable of generating impactful, India-specific scientific data and healthcare solutions. The CRL is also expected to catalyze international collaborations, attract research funding, and produce peer-reviewed scientific output of global relevance.

Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, expressed gratitude to the Union Health Ministry, stating,
“This laboratory will act as a nucleus for scientific curiosity and innovation. It reflects our commitment to developing indigenous research capabilities that directly contribute to India’s healthcare advancements.”
