The Government of Uttar Pradesh has reported significant progress in its 100-day intensive tuberculosis (TB) campaign, identifying 9,340 TB-infected individuals within the first month of the initiative.

Campaign Overview

Launched on December 7, 2024, under the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the campaign initially targeted 15 districts with high TB prevalence. Approximately 3.5 million individuals underwent screening for potential TB symptoms during this period. The screening confirmed TB infections in 9,340 individuals, all of whom have commenced treatment.

District-wise Case Identification

The campaign’s impact varied across districts:

Sitapur: Reported the highest number of cases with 1,175 patients.

Siddharthnagar: Identified 900 cases.

Rampur: Recorded 858 cases.

Barabanki: Detected 800 cases.

Rae Bareli: Found 711 cases.

Amethi: Reported the lowest with 258 cases.

Expansion and Community Engagement

Following the initial success, the campaign has been expanded to all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. A total of 71,000 Nikshay Shivirs (TB screening and awareness camps) were organized, with 3,723 camps conducted using 52 Nikshay vans, averaging 2,062 camps daily. Additionally, 29,290 Nikshay Mitras (TB patient donors) have adopted 50,705 TB patients, and 2,201 nutrition kits have been distributed to support them.

State’s Commitment to TB Eradication

Uttar Pradesh has demonstrated a strong commitment to TB eradication, securing the top position in TB notifications in 2024 by identifying 673,000 patients, exceeding its target of 650,000 set by the Central TB Division. This achievement is attributed to campaigns like Integrated Nikshay Diwas, Active Case Finding (ACF), and Dastak, focusing on early symptom detection and community participation.

Future Outlook

The state government continues to prioritize TB eradication through sustained public awareness, comprehensive screening, and prompt treatment initiatives. The active involvement of NGOs and community stakeholders remains integral to the campaign’s success, aiming to achieve a TB-free Uttar Pradesh in alignment with national health objectives.
