Cancer continues to pose a growing public health challenge in India, not because we lack effective treatments, but because far too many patients are diagnosed at advanced stages. Early detection remains the most powerful determinant of survival, functional outcomes, and quality of life. Recognising warning signs early, seeking timely medical attention, and ensuring access to multidisciplinary, evidence-based care can significantly change the course of this disease. When we talk about the symptoms of cancer, it varies based on the type but some of the common symptoms include: unexplained lumps, changes in bowel or bladder habits, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and skin change.

On World Cancer Day, it is important to remember that cancer care extends far beyond treatment alone. Prevention through tobacco cessation, regular screening for high-risk populations, lifestyle modification, and community awareness is equally critical. Equally important is delivering compassionate, patient-centric care that integrates medical treatment with nutritional support, rehabilitation, and psychological counselling. When awareness, early diagnosis, and comprehensive care come together, cancer is no longer a diagnosis defined by fear, but one met with hope, dignity, and the possibility of long-term survival.”

“When cancer is detected early and treated with compassion and precision, hope is not the exceptio, it becomes the expectation.”
