Kolkata, 10th November: World Immunisation Day is observed on 10th November every year, and the theme this year is ‘Immunisation for All is Humanly Possible’. World Immunization Week 2025 intends to ensure that more adolescents, children and adults, as well as their communities, are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. In the last 50 years, essential vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives as per World Health Organisation (WHO).

Adult immunisation matters since it protects adults from potentially serious vaccine-preventable diseases, reduces the spread of infections to vulnerable populations through herd immunity, and contributes to lower healthcare costs and a healthier workforce. World Immunisation Day highlights the importance of expanding vaccination efforts beyond childhood to cover all stages of life.

Vaccines protect adults from diseases such as influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, hepatitis and shingles, which can result in serious complications, hospitalisation and even death. High adult vaccination rates are necessary in order to safeguard the most vulnerable members of society.

As people age, their immune systems become weak, and many develop chronic conditions, putting them at a high risk for severe outcomes from infections. Adult vaccines are a critical part of managing health and reducing this risk.

Suraksha Diagnostic Limited (Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics), one of the leading diagnostics chains in Eastern India, operates dedicated Adult Vaccination Clinics offering preventive immunization services following national and global health guidelines. The clinics intend to protect adults, especially those with chronic conditions, individuals over 50 years or those with specific occupational or lifestyle risks from infectious diseases. Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics offer vaccines such as HPV, Pneumococcal, Influenza and other vaccines. Vaccination services are integrated within Suraksha’s comprehensive diagnostic services, allowing for holistic patient management, including consultations with specialists and diagnostic testing.

Speaking on the importance of adult vaccination on the occasion of World Immunisation Day, Dr Somnath Chatterjee, Chairman and Joint Managing Director at Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics, said: “Immunisation is not merely a medical achievement – it is a moral responsibility. It is not a duty that ends with childhood, as it is a lifelong shield of protection. When adults stay vaccinated, they not only preserve their own health, but also uphold the well-being of families, workplaces and communities. A healthy nation begins with responsibility at every age.”

As we commemorate World Immunization Day, it is important to recognise that vaccination is not confined to childhood since it is a lifelong commitment towards health. By staying up to date with recommended vaccines, adults contribute towards stronger families, safer workplaces, and more resilient communities.
