New Delhi, October 2025: A Delhi woman Reena Mehta (age-37 years) has been in traumatic health condition. Three failed IVF attempts for pregnancy due to bilateral hydrosalpinx (fluid blockage in the fallopian tubes), gall bladder stones, and persistent pelvic pain. These complexities also resulted in depression and finally, she was admitted to Apollo Spectra Delhi. A team of highly skilled doctors led by Dr. Megha Mittal, Senior Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, evaluated her condition and found that she was a suffering from endometriosis which is a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.  A highly complex laparoscopic surgery on a young woman was performed to cure the advancing endometriosis.

The patient had been battling from severe symptoms for years which also included painful period, painful intercourse, painful defecation and chronic constipation that requires daily laxatives for over a decade. When the patient was brought to hospital her condition of pelvis was completely frozen due to variety of factors such as dense adhesions, severely affecting her quality of life.

The complex laparoscopic procedure was led by Senior Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dr. Megha Mittal, who performed meticulous adhesiolysis- a surgical procedure that involves cutting or removing endometriotic tissue of a pelvis which was completely frozen.

Complexities were many. Along with removing blocked fallopian tube and bilateral endometrioma excision, preserving the health of ovarian tissue at the same time was a big challenge. Removing Rectosigmoid from the uterus and ovary was also a meticulous task.

Describing the case Dr. Megha Mittal said, “This was one of the most challenging and critical surgeries I have ever performed, the pelvic anatomy was completely damaged with the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and rectosigmoid colon stuck to each other due to severe endometriosis. Through the help of laparoscopic dissection, we were able to successfully restore the pelvic anatomy, remove the endometriotic tissue and provide instant relief to patients from severe pain.

The outcome of surgery was transformative for her. The patient who earlier resigned herself to the life of chronic pain and repeated medical setback is now doing well and recovering gradually.

“Now, my pain has been reduced significantly. I am also witnessing improvement in function of bowel and renewed sense of physical and emotional well being as well.
