The findings reflect a major shift in patient expectations post-pandemic, with people increasingly prioritizing safety, hygiene, and credibility over cost. According to the survey, conducted across metro and Tier-II cities, the majority of respondents associated certified hospitals and clinics with better outcomes, ethical practices, and overall trustworthiness in medical care.

Experts suggest that this change in mindset is largely driven by increased awareness of healthcare standards and the accessibility of information through digital platforms. The survey also highlights that patients now actively seek hospitals accredited by NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) or similar recognized bodies, considering such certification a seal of reliability.

A leading health policy analyst, noted, “The Indian patient today is more informed and discerning. Certification is no longer seen as a formality but as a marker of safety and service quality. Healthcare institutions that can demonstrate compliance with rigorous standards are likely to gain stronger patient loyalty and market advantage.”

The survey also revealed that over 75% of respondents consider doctor credibility, infection control measures, and transparent pricing as key decision-making factors while choosing a hospital. Interestingly, younger urban consumers were more likely to value certifications, reflecting a generational shift toward accountability-driven healthcare consumption.

Industry leaders believe this trend will accelerate the formalization of healthcare services in India, pushing more hospitals, diagnostic centers, and clinics to pursue internationally recognized certifications such as JCI and ISO. This could also encourage regulatory bodies to tighten oversight and promote standardization across both public and private healthcare facilities.
