First of its kind technology in India to help improve the outcomes of spine surgery

On the occasion of World Spine Day, BR Life SSNMC Hospital and Brains Neuro Spine Centre, a leading multi super specialty hospital in the city has launched the Intraoperative 3D Reconstruction Medical Technology for Spine Surgery today. BR Life SSNMC Hospital, located in Raja Rajeshwari Nagar, has introduced this first-of-its-kind technology in India with an aim to help neurosurgeons in obtaining the sharp image of the spine which can be converted into a 3D image within few minutes. This technology is a boon which will give the surgeons a 360-degree image of the spine orientation with Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at BR Life SSNMC Hospital was also launched today.

BR Life SSNMC Hospital associated with Brains Neuro Spine Center, founded by one of foremost Neurosurgeon, Dr Venkataramana NK has launched – Brains Neuroscience Center of Excellence to provide state-of-the art facility and treatment for all neuroscience and spine related problems.

Back muscles support the spine and its strength is critical to prevent back pain. Back muscles bear nearly 60% of the body strain and when they are weak, there is an abnormal stress transference on the bone and discs, leading to tissue damage, back ache and in several cases, spinal injuries. The incidence of spine injuries is on the rise in most of the developing countries. India witnesses more than 2,00,000 cases of spinal injuries a year. Of these, 30,000 relate to spinal cord injury and paralysis of various degrees. Major causes include road accidents (approximately 50%), work place accidents including fall from heights (45%) and sports injuries.

Talking about the launch of this new technology, Dr. Venkataramana, Chief Neurosurgeon at BR Life SSNMC – Brains Neuroscience Center of Excellence said, “C-arms technology which we are using currently for spine surgery is an intraoperative X-Ray and imaging technology. In this technology, if the patient is obese or there is any metal interfering, then the image is not shown clearly and can lead to difficulty during the surgery. 3D Reconstruction Medical Technology provides high resolution pictures with sharp images that can be kept and referred to throughout the surgery for reference. With increasing spine problems and surgeries among the young crowd in Bangalore, this technology will benefit the neuro and spine surgeons to analyze the problem and conduct the surgeries with ease and precision.”

Commenting on introducing the new technology in BR Life SSNMC Hospital, Col Hemraj Singh Parmar, Group CEO, BR Life said, “At BR Life, we have always taken the initiative to introduce new treatment methods and advanced medical technologies in our hospitals. We aim to provide the best in class treatment to all our patients to ensure that they are well on their path of recovery from all kinds of clinical problems. We are sure that this new technology will benefit the patients in treating them quickly and accurately.”
