Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, on Thursday, launched a novel new scheme in the state – the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ at Samanapalli in the district of Krishnagiri. As a part of the scheme both medical services, as well as medication, shall be provided to the public at their doorsteps. The administration intends implementing the scheme before the end of 2021. With an allocation of Rs 258 crore, about 30-Lakh families are set to benefit from the scheme.
In the seven districts that will benefit from the scheme at the onset, some 1264 women health-workers and 50 physiotherapists have been hired for the task of taking Medicare to the people. Another 25,000 health-care workers will be appointed for the roll-out of the scheme to the whole state.
Mr Stalin remarked this initiative is a part of a seven-point agenda to ensure “enhanced quality of life to all”. Specifically, diseases like high BP and diabetes will be screened given that these two conditions go mostly undetected in villages. Monthly medicines will also be provided to those affected. Physiotherapy will also be given to those in need.
