The Jan Aushadhi Kendras, part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), have made headlines by achieving unprecedented sales of Rs 200 crore in September 2024, marking the highest monthly sales in the initiative’s history, according to a statement from the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. Significant Year-on-Year Growth

The sales figures for September 2023 were recorded at Rs 141 crore, reflecting a remarkable 42 percent growth year-on-year. Overall, from the beginning of 2024 to September, the Jan Aushadhi Kendras have reported a total annual growth of 31.20 percent, successfully meeting the sales target of Rs 913.30 crore.

Daily Reach and Consumer Impact

The initiative serves almost 10 lakh people daily, providing them with access to essential medications at significantly reduced prices. Over the past decade, these Kendras have sold medicines worth Rs 6,100 crore, leading to estimated savings of Rs 30,000 crore for consumers compared to branded medicines.

Affordable Healthcare Solutions

Under the PMBJP, medications are priced at a maximum of 50 percent of the average price of the top three branded counterparts. Jan Aushadhi medicines, surgical devices, and nutraceutical products are available at prices that are at least 50 percent lower than, and in some cases, 80 to 90 percent lower than branded options available in the market.

Expansion Plans

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras are rapidly expanding, with a current total of 13,822 Kendras established across the country as of September 30, 2024. The target is to reach 25,000 Kendras, further enhancing access to affordable healthcare solutions for citizens.
