These collaborations are a part of the BFI-BIOME Virtual Network Program that has pledged USD 15 Million to advance Biomedical research in India

The collaborations were formalized through the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) at events held at CSIR-CDRI and BRIC-THSTI respectively. As per the MoU, under the BFI BIOME Virtual Network program, BFI aims to support innovative research and development initiatives across these two institutes.

CSIR-CDRI is recognized as a leader in drug discovery, affordable diagnostics, and advanced healthcare solutions. They have conducted exceptional research and developed methods to address infectious diseases, and advance drug development and drive affordable diagnostics.

THSTI a pioneering research institute under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), GoI and is a true beacon of STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Medicine) research and advancement. THSTI brings the four fields together to create innovative and accessible remedies for solving public health challenges.

Mr. Sandeep Nailwal, Founder of BFI, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnerships “Partnering with both CSIR-CDRI and BRIC-THSTI represents a milestone for BFI. These collaborations reaffirm our dedication to advancing home-grown solutions for India’s healthcare needs while building an ecosystem that can address the global healthcare challenges of tomorrow.”

Dr. Gaurav Singh, CEO of BFI, emphasized the significance of these alliances “The well-established research capabilities of CSIR-CDRI and the translational focus of BRIC-THSTI provide us with a robust platform to further our mission of promoting deep science and sustainable healthcare innovation. Together, we aim to not only address India’s healthcare challenges but to create solutions that will have global relevance.”

Reflecting on the new partnership, Dr Radha Rangarajan, Director, CSIR-CDRI, said, “We welcome this partnership with BFI-BIOME to advance our drug discovery portfolio. Our shared commitment to addressing India’s unmet clinical needs makes this public-private partnership particularly meaningful. The projects receiving funding will build on novel and pioneering research that has been undertaken by our scientists in the fields of malaria, dengue and metabolic diseases. We look forward to being part of the BFI-BIOME network and jointly creating a new pathway for translational research.”

Prof. G Karthikeyan, Director of BRIC-THSTI, underscored the value of the alliance “Our collaboration with BFI underscores the importance of fostering translational research that drives innovation. This partnership complements our ongoing efforts to contribute to India’s bio-economy and aligns with the Government of India’s BioE3 policy. We look forward to collectively shaping the future of healthcare research.”

BFI’s collaboration with both the institutes under the BFI-BIOME virtual network, is a true synergy of sorts, given that the vision of both institutes resonates with the BFI-BIOME Virtual Network Program’s aim to nourish and support biomedical research and innovation to develop solutions for critical public health challenges.

Launched in February 2024, BFI-BIOME Virtual Network program aims to foster and support biomedical research and innovation in India to develop healthcare solutions for the global south. Since its inception, the Program is bringing together leading researchers and innovators to create a virtual network that can brainstorm and collaborate to identify and solve pressing healthcare challenges in India. Through the BFI-BIOME Virtual Network, these collaborations will foster groundbreaking research and translational innovations. This initiative reinforces India’s leadership in biomedical innovation and sets the stage for impactful healthcare breakthroughs that will address the country’s urgent health needs and contribute to global health advancements.
