Google Health has officially rolled out Google Health Coach in India while rebranding the Fitbit app into the new Google Health app, marking one of the company’s biggest moves yet in AI driven digital wellness and connected healthcare.

The redesigned platform integrates fitness tracking, sleep monitoring, wellness analytics, nutrition insights, and AI powered coaching into a single ecosystem powered by Google’s Gemini AI models. The rollout begins globally on May 19, with Indian users among the first markets to receive access to the upgraded experience.

The new Google Health app replaces the legacy Fitbit interface with four dedicated sections Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health  offering users a centralized dashboard for real time health metrics and personalized wellness recommendations.

According to Google, the AI powered Health Coach functions as a 24/7 digital wellness assistant capable of generating personalized workout plans, sleep guidance, recovery suggestions, meal analysis, and health summaries based on wearable and medical data. The assistant is integrated with Google Health Premium, priced at ₹99 per month in India. The platform also supports interoperability through Health Connect, Apple Health integration, medical record syncing, and compatibility with third party fitness services including Peloton and MyFitnessPal.

Google stated that more than one billion health related searches are conducted on its platforms every day, underscoring the increasing consumer demand for AI assisted healthcare and preventive wellness tools.

The rebranding follows Google’s long term integration strategy after acquiring Fitbit in 2021. While the Fitbit branding will continue for hardware devices such as the newly announced Fitbit Air wearable, the software ecosystem is now transitioning fully under the Google Health identity.

The newly introduced Fitbit Air fitness tracker, weighing approximately 12 grams, supports tracking for over 140 activities, continuous heart-rate monitoring, HRV analysis, sleep tracking, and irregular heart rhythm alerts including AFib detection.

Google has also reiterated its “privacy-first” approach, stating that personal health data collected through the platform will not be used for advertising purposes a commitment that has remained central since the Fitbit acquisition.

Industry experts believe the rollout signals a broader shift toward AI powered preventive healthcare ecosystems, where wearable devices, generative AI, and digital health records work together to deliver personalized and continuous health management experiences.
