India and Norway have strengthened bilateral ties by signing multiple agreements focused on healthcare, space cooperation, and digital technology as both countries elevated their relationship to a “Green Strategic Partnership” during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Norway.
The agreements were finalized following delegation level talks between Prime Minister Modi and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in more than four decades.
Under the healthcare partnership, both nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening collaboration in high tech healthcare services, digital health, artificial intelligence, medical research, and health technology innovation. Officials stated that the agreement will encourage knowledge exchange, innovation partnerships, and healthcare technology cooperation between institutions and companies of both countries.
India and Norway also signed an agreement between the Indian Space Research Organisation and the Norwegian Space Agency to deepen cooperation in the space sector, including Arctic research, satellite applications, and climate related scientific collaboration.
A separate Digital Development Partnership Agreement was signed to support human development projects in Global South countries through India’s Digital Public Infrastructure initiatives. The collaboration is expected to promote digital public goods, technology driven governance systems, and inclusive digital solutions internationally.
The discussions also focused on clean energy, green shipping, maritime cooperation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and Arctic research under the newly announced Green Strategic Partnership framework.
According to official trade data, bilateral trade between India and Norway crossed nearly USD 2.73 billion in 2024, while the India EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement aims to attract nearly USD 100 billion in investments and create around 1 million jobs in India over the next 15 years.
The latest agreements are expected to further strengthen India’s global partnerships in healthcare innovation, digital transformation, space research, and sustainable technology development.
