Health authorities in Bengaluru have intensified surveillance and precautionary measures after a suspected Ebola case was reported in the city, triggering a health alert amid rising global concern over the outbreak in parts of Africa.
According to officials, a woman who recently travelled from Uganda to Ahmedabad and later arrived in Bengaluru developed symptoms that raised suspicion of possible Ebola infection. The patient is currently under medical observation while samples have been sent for laboratory testing.
Anil Kumar Banagar confirmed that the hospital and local health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and following all standard infection control protocols. Contact tracing and surveillance measures have also reportedly been initiated as a precautionary step.
The alert comes shortly after the WHO declared the Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Ebola Virus Disease is a severe and often fatal illness transmitted through direct contact with infected bodily fluids, with previous outbreaks recording fatality rates between 25% and 90%, according to WHO estimates.
Health officials clarified that no confirmed Ebola case has been reported in India so far. However, authorities have strengthened airport screening, isolation preparedness, and surveillance systems, particularly for passengers arriving from affected African nations.
Symptoms of Ebola typically include high fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, body pain, and in severe cases, bleeding complications. Public health experts stress that early detection, isolation, and strict infection control measures are critical in preventing transmission.
India’s health surveillance network remains on alert as global agencies continue monitoring the evolving outbreak situation. Officials have urged citizens not to panic while advising travellers returning from affected countries to immediately report symptoms and seek medical attention if required.
