The implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance programme is gaining momentum in Delhi, with more than 7.72 lakh Ayushman Bharat cards issued so far, reflecting increasing enrollment and awareness among eligible beneficiaries in the national capital.

Official data shows that claims worth ₹86.22 crore have already been settled under the scheme, indicating active utilization of healthcare services by beneficiaries and growing adoption of cashless treatment facilities across empanelled hospitals.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), the flagship health assurance programme of the Government of India, provides eligible families with health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalization. The scheme aims to reduce out-of pocket healthcare expenditure and improve access to quality treatment for economically vulnerable sections of society.

Healthcare officials say the issuance of over 7.72 lakh cards marks an important milestone for Delhi’s healthcare ecosystem, enabling beneficiaries to access cashless treatment across a large network of empanelled public and private hospitals. The claim settlement figures further indicate that patients are actively utilizing services ranging from surgeries and emergency care to treatment for chronic and critical illnesses.

Nationally, Ayushman Bharat is regarded as one of the world’s largest government funded health insurance programmes, covering more than 55 crore beneficiaries across India. The initiative has supported millions of hospital admissions since its launch and continues to play a significant role in improving healthcare accessibility.

Public health experts believe the programme has helped reduce financial barriers to treatment, particularly for low income households that often face catastrophic healthcare expenses. They also note that increasing enrollment and claim utilization are important indicators of the scheme’s growing impact on healthcare delivery.

With enrollment continuing to rise and healthcare access expanding, officials expect the programme to further strengthen Delhi’s healthcare safety net while supporting the broader goal of universal health coverage and affordable healthcare for all.
