Chandigarh Punjab’s flagship Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna has crossed a major healthcare milestone, with 3.79 lakh patients receiving cashless treatment worth ₹654 crore since the scheme’s launch earlier this year, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced.
Launched in January 2026, the scheme provides free and cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per family annually without any income restrictions, making it one of the most comprehensive state funded healthcare initiatives in the country. The program aims to ensure that quality healthcare remains accessible and affordable for every household in Punjab.
According to the Chief Minister, the scheme has witnessed significant utilization within a short period, reflecting growing public confidence in the state’s healthcare infrastructure and financial protection mechanisms. The ₹654 crore worth of treatments availed so far underscores the increasing demand for cashless healthcare services among beneficiaries.
Healthcare experts note that rising treatment costs often force families into financial hardship. Schemes offering cashless hospitalization can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenditure, which remains a major challenge in India’s healthcare system. By removing income based eligibility restrictions, Punjab’s initiative seeks to provide broader healthcare coverage across the population.
The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna covers a range of medical procedures and treatments through empanelled hospitals, enabling patients to access healthcare without immediate financial burden. Officials believe the initiative will strengthen preventive care, encourage timely treatment, and improve overall health outcomes.
Public health analysts have described the scheme as an important step toward expanding universal health coverage at the state level. With healthcare affordability emerging as a key policy priority, large scale insurance and assurance programs are increasingly being viewed as essential tools for improving access to medical services.
The Punjab government has also emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery through hospital upgrades, expanded service coverage, and enhanced patient support systems. Officials expect beneficiary numbers to continue rising as awareness about the scheme grows across urban and rural areas.
Healthcare stakeholders have welcomed the progress reported under the program, noting that the treatment of nearly 3.79 lakh patients within months of launch demonstrates the scheme’s potential impact. The government believes the initiative will continue to play a crucial role in reducing financial barriers to healthcare and improving access to quality treatment for millions of residents across Punjab.
