Merck, the global science and technology company, has inaugurated its Merck Global Capability Centre (MGCC) in Bengaluru, consolidating its technology and shared services operations in India under a single integrated campus to drive digital transformation, enterprise innovation and support its Life Science and Healthcare businesses. The launch underscores India’s growing importance as a strategic hub for global healthcare, research and technology operations.
Located in Electronic City, the new MGCC spans approximately 17,000 square metres and is designed to accommodate nearly 3,300 professionals working across data, digital, process and technology functions. The facility will support critical operations across Merck’s global businesses, including healthcare, life sciences and electronics, while strengthening collaboration and accelerating innovation initiatives.
According to the company, the Bengaluru campus will serve as a strategic center for Enterprise Solutions, Data & AI, Information Technology, automation, business technology services and shared operations. The integrated facility features innovation labs, collaborative workspaces and dedicated zones designed to promote inclusion, creativity and next generation digital capabilities.
Merck stated that the new center will play a key role in advancing digital innovation initiatives across its Life Science and Healthcare businesses, supporting activities ranging from research and development to manufacturing, supply chain operations and commercial functions. The expansion aligns with the company’s broader strategy of leveraging digital technologies and artificial intelligence to enhance operational efficiency and accelerate scientific innovation.
India has emerged as a global hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs), hosting nearly 60 percent of the world’s GCC ecosystem, according to industry estimates. The country’s strong talent pool, digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem have made it an increasingly important destination for multinational healthcare, pharmaceutical and technology companies.
Merck, which operates in more than 65 countries and employs over 62,000 people worldwide, has continued to expand its presence in India through investments in healthcare research, life sciences manufacturing and digital capabilities. Earlier this year, the company also expanded its healthcare R&D operations and manufacturing footprint in Bengaluru, reinforcing India’s role in its global growth strategy.
Industry experts believe that the launch of the MGCC reflects the growing convergence of healthcare, life sciences and digital technologies. As artificial intelligence, data analytics and automation become increasingly integral to healthcare delivery and scientific research, integrated innovation centers such as the Bengaluru facility are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of global healthcare and life sciences industries.
