Use MoS Health Prataprao Jadhav during the National Health Authority’s (NHA) two-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ on the implementation of AB PM-JAY and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Addressing officials during the review meeting, Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, said, “Every cashless treatment provided under AB PM-JAY reaffirms the commitment to the spirit of Antyodaya to ensure that the last person in the queue receives priority in accessing quality healthcare.” He emphasized that the scheme continues to strengthen equitable healthcare delivery by reducing out-of-pocket expenditure for economically vulnerable families.
Launched in 2018, AB PM-JAY is the world’s largest government funded health assurance programme, providing annual health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation. The scheme covers a wide range of medical and surgical procedures across both public and private empanelled hospitals.
The review meeting also assessed the progress of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which aims to build an interoperable digital health ecosystem through ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account), digital health records and seamless information exchange between healthcare providers. Officials reviewed strategies to improve beneficiary access, strengthen digital integration and enhance service delivery under both flagship initiatives.
According to the National Health Authority, the expanding network of over 37,000 empanelled hospitals has significantly improved access to cashless treatment across urban and rural India. The government believes the continued convergence of AB PM-JAY and ABDM will strengthen healthcare accessibility, improve continuity of care and accelerate India’s transition towards a digitally integrated, patient centric healthcare system.
The latest figures underscore the scale of Ayushman Bharat’s impact, with ₹1.91 lakh crore worth of cashless treatments delivered to eligible beneficiaries, reinforcing the programme’s role in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and reducing the financial burden of healthcare on millions of Indian families.
