Emcure Pharmaceuticals has acquired the remaining 12.05% stake in Gennova Biopharmaceuticals, making the Maharashtra based biotechnology company a wholly owned subsidiary. The move is aimed at strengthening Emcure’s presence in the fast-growing biologics and biosimilars segment while simplifying the company’s ownership structure under its One Emcure strategy.

As part of the restructuring, Samit Mehta has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gennova, leading the company into its next phase of growth. The leadership transition also marks the conclusion of Dr. Sanjay Singh’s nearly 20-year tenure at Gennova, during which the company emerged as one of India’s leading biotechnology innovators.

According to Emcure, the acquisition aligns with its long-term strategy of consolidating biologics operations under a unified structure to enhance operational efficiency, accelerate innovation and strengthen its global competitiveness in advanced therapeutics.

Commenting on the development, Satish Mehta, Managing Director & CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, said the acquisition simplifies Gennova’s ownership, sharpens its strategic focus and positions the company for accelerated growth in biologics and biosimilars under Samit Mehta’s leadership.

The biologics and biosimilars market is witnessing rapid global expansion, driven by increasing demand for targeted therapies to treat cancer, autoimmune diseases and other chronic conditions. Industry experts believe the consolidation will enable Emcure to strengthen research and development, scale manufacturing capabilities and expand its presence in domestic and international markets.

The acquisition underscores Emcure Pharmaceuticals’ commitment to building a stronger biotechnology portfolio and reinforcing India’s position as a global hub for biopharmaceutical innovation, advanced biologics and affordable biosimilar development.
