Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak has directed health officials to closely monitor swine flu (H1N1) and viral fever cases across the state amid an increase in flu-like illnesses.

Pathak has written to the Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) and the Director General of Health, instructing officials to maintain close surveillance of suspected and confirmed cases in all districts and regularly review testing and treatment arrangements.

District health authorities have been asked to regularly assess the situation, monitor the condition of patients visiting hospitals and take immediate action whenever required. Hospitals have also been directed to ensure adequate testing facilities and treatment resources are available.

Pathak said there was no need for panic, assuring residents that the state government and Health Department are continuously monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required.

The Deputy Chief Minister also emphasised maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in hospitals and ensuring appropriate infection-prevention measures are followed.

The latest directive comes as several parts of India report increased seasonal influenza activity. Delhi, for instance, has recorded more than 1,777 H1N1 cases in 2026, prompting authorities to strengthen surveillance and issue public health advisories.

Health authorities continue to advise people with flu-like symptoms to practise respiratory hygiene, avoid unnecessary exposure to others when unwell and seek medical attention if symptoms become severe or persistent.
