The Adani Group is set to establish a 2,000-bed modern hospital in New Town, near Kolkata, with 1,000 beds reserved for free treatment of economically weaker patients, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said.

Adhikari said Adani Group director Karan Adani had met him regarding the project and that he had provided written consent for the proposed hospital. Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani has also sent a commitment letter expressing the group’s intention to begin work on the project soon.

Of the planned 2,000 beds, 50% or 1,000 beds will be dedicated to free healthcare for poor patients, while the remaining 1,000 beds will operate on a commercial basis. The hospital is expected to strengthen access to advanced healthcare services in New Town and the wider Kolkata region.

The project was first announced in July, when the West Bengal government said the Adani Group had given a written commitment to develop the facility. At that time, no details on the total project investment, construction timeline or specific medical specialities had been officially disclosed.

The latest commitment indicates that the project is moving towards implementation, with the state government and Adani Group working to facilitate its development.

The proposed hospital will add 2,000 beds to the region’s healthcare capacity, including a substantial free-care component aimed at improving access to hospital treatment for economically disadvantaged patients. Further details regarding the hospital’s construction schedule, infrastructure, clinical departments and operational model are expected to be announced as the project progresses.
