Aims to highlight the importance of early diagnosis for women. The initiative coincides with IACTI’S program on spreading awareness around the role of technology in redefining the ways to treat breast cancer.

Fujifilm India Pvt Ltd, a leader in the development and application of imaging and information innovations in healthcare technologies in collaboration with Indian Academy of CT- Guided Intervention (IACTI) and Breast Imaging Society of India (BISI) organised an awareness program on ‘Breast & Gynaecology Imaging – Precise & Practical Approach’ in Chennai on 10th &11th August 2019.The two-day conference focused on providing an opportunity to the doctors for a great learning experience that would help them in their day-to-day practices. The conference included several intellectual sessions on topics such as Breast Imaging, Hands-on Intervention, Imaging and Gynaecology Imaging along with the role of new technologies in the healthcare sector. The event witnessed the participation of eminent doctors from Singapore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore and Coimbatore.Over the years, the number of cancer cases has risen dangerously. As per WHO estimates, in India 1 per 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. This number is expected to rise to more than 2 per 50,000 cases a year by 2030. Out of every 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer in India, one woman dies. The biggest reason for these deaths is lack of awareness and ignorance because most patients reach the doctor when the cancer has already reached the last stage.
Mammography is the most powerful breast cancer detection tool.Mammograms don’t prevent breast cancer, but they can save lives by finding breast cancers as early as possible. According to a report by WHO, Mammograms have been shown to reduce breast cancer mortality by around 20% in women by early detection. Modern day digital mammography machines with tomosynthesis such as the Fujifilm’s 50 Micron digital Mammography – Amulet Innovality are able to detect cancers early and involve very little radiation, even less than a standard chest X ray. In future, digital mammography will become more and more common. Most oncologists agree that breast screening mammography should start at the age of 40 and earlier in patients with high risks like genetic predisposition (BRCA 1 & BRCA 2 antigen positive) and those with strong family history.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Haruto Iwata, Managing Director, Fujifilm India Pvt. Ltd. said, “In the past
2-3 years, Fujifilm India touched lives by initiating health check-ups across cities in India, especially in remote areas and associations with hospitals and institutes to drive awareness around early detection of breast cancer. We believe in enabling doctors with next generation technology that allows them to go beyon conventional knowledge, which can help save lives and encourage patients to become more engaged in their own care. Mammography machine helps in providing advance treatments attuned to every patient’s need. I believe that our association with IACTI and BISI to spread awareness on early detection is a critical step forward towards building a vibrant and healthy India.”
“In India, the major problem is the late detection of cancer and the key to control is to give the right treatment at the right time. We are grateful to associate with IACTI and BISI to sustain our vision and spread awareness about early detection of breast cancer. Our technology & innovation with the support of IACTI will reach to the people who cannot afford the best of the treatments.” said Mr. Chander Shekhar Sibal, Senior Vice President and Head of Medical Division at Fujifilm India.Present at the event Dr. Roy Santosham, Founder of IACTI said, “Our academy was started in the year 2010 to Fujifilm India pledges to spread awareness about early detection of breast cancer; Partners with Indian Academy of CT- Guided Intervention and Breast Imaging Society of India

  • The initiative coincides with IACTI’S program on spreading awareness around the role of technology in redefining the ways to treat breast cancer teach and standardize CT interventional procedures to detect cancer at an early stage.

We have been widening our collaborations to source newer technologies to meet the increasing prevalence of cancer among women. Our co-
founder Dr. Bhawna Dev has also handpicked faculty from across the country who hold enormous experience in this

field. We are very pleased to collaborate with Fujifilm and Breast Imaging Society of India to add value to the existing
diagnostic portfolio and treatment outcomes.

Dr. Bhawna Dev, Co-founder of IACTI further mentioned, “With this conference, we intend to reinforce the basic concepts and impart knowledge on the recent advances and new guidelines in the management of breast disease.
We also conduced educational workshops on X-ray mammography, Tomosynthesis and MR mammography followed by trainings by renowned women imaging radiologists on breast biopics.” Quick facts about the Amulet Innovality (Full Field Digital Mammography)
