Pioneering a new era of patient-focused healthcare spaces that prioritise well-being and innovation

The healthcare and infrastructure sectors in India are undergoing rapid transformation, driven by advancements in medical technology and a growing emphasis on patient-centric care. As the demands on healthcare facilities continue to evolve, the importance of designing spaces that not only meet the highest standards of medical care but also foster an environment conducive to healing has become more critical than ever.

In this context, the launch of AAA BNK marks a significant step forward in the integration of architectural excellence with healthcare expertise. The collaboration between The BNK Group helmed by Behzad Kharas and partnered with Dr Amit Jagtap and AAA Healthcare by Dr. Ahmad Mecklai aims to set new benchmarks in healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that every aspect of design is aligned with the needs of patients, medical staff, and the broader community.

Established in 2005, the BNK Group has built a strong reputation for its architectural and interior design expertise. With a portfolio spanning luxury residences, commercial developments, and hospitality projects across India, the Middle East, and Africa, The BNK Group is now leveraging its experience to create state-of-the-art healthcare facilities with the launch of AAA BNK

In conversation with Behzad Kharas & Dr. Ahmad Mecklai, we gain insights into the future of healthcare design and the innovations that are set to redefine patient care in India.

What are the key elements that patients look for in a hospital’s design?

Dr. Ahmad: Patients primarily seek a hospital environment that feels safe, clean, and comfortable. Besides expert medical care, key elements include easy navigation, natural lighting, comfortable waiting areas, and privacy in patient rooms. Accessibility and a calming environment also play crucial roles. At AAA BNK, we focus on these aspects to create spaces that reduce stress and promote healing.

How does AAA BNK ensure that its healthcare designs meet the specific needs of patients and medical staff?

Behzad Kharas: We start with thorough consultations with both patients and medical staff to understand their needs and pain points. Our designs incorporate their feedback, ensuring functionality, efficiency, and comfort. We also use evidence-based design principles to enhance patient outcomes and staff productivity. This approach ensures that our facilities support effective patient care and staff well-being.

What innovations in healthcare infrastructure do you see as most transformative for patient care?

Dr. Ahmad: Right now there is so much happening in the field and so many innovations that have transformed the process. Telemedicine facilities, modular construction, and smart building technologies are transforming healthcare infrastructure. Innovations like touchless technology, advanced HVAC systems, and adaptable patient rooms enhance infection control and patient comfort. AAA BNK integrates these innovations to create flexible, future-ready healthcare environments.

How do you foresee medical trends influencing the design of future healthcare facilities?

Dr. Ahmad: Medical trends keep evolving but in terms of infrastructure it remains still for a long period of time. So our entire goal is to balance the two, trends like personalized medicine, outpatient care, and ageing populations are shaping facility design.

Future hospitals will need adaptable spaces for rapid changes in technology and care methods. We anticipate more outpatient facilities, telehealth integration, and spaces designed for chronic disease management and wellness programs.

We are also focusing on trends such as biophilic design, which integrates natural elements to enhance healing, and flexible spaces that can adapt to different uses over time.

What are the biggest challenges in creating a healthcare facility, and how does AAA BNK address these?

Behzad Kharas: Balancing cost, functionality, and patient experience is a significant challenge. Regulatory compliance and staying updated with medical advancements also add complexity. We address these by employing a multidisciplinary approach, involving experts from design, engineering, and healthcare. This ensures our designs are cost-effective, compliant, and forward-thinking.

In your experience, how important is the collaboration between healthcare professionals and designers in creating effective healthcare environments?

Behzad Kharas: Collaboration is crucial. Healthcare professionals provide insights into workflow, patient care needs, and safety protocols. Designers translate these insights into practical, aesthetically pleasing spaces. We prioritize ongoing dialogue between our design team and healthcare professionals to ensure our projects meet clinical and operational needs effectively.
