Dr. Kochurani Abraham, Consultant Pediatric Endocrinologist elaborated,“The prevalence of childhood obesity is increasing at an alarming rate across India. Crucial factors such as unhealthy eating habits, absence of physical activity, and sedentary lifestyles have led to obesity in children. Common symptoms witnessed are excessive weight gain, difficulty in breathing, fatigue, and early onset of joint or bone pain. If left untreated, childhood obesity can raise the risk of various complications like diabetes, heart disease, and psychological challenges.”
To help children fight obesity and improve their quality of life, Ankura Hospital has taken a unique initiative by coming up with the Pediatric Obesity Clinic OPD.
Dr Seema Joshi highlighted the long-term risks associated with childhood obesity. “3 in 10 children aged 5-19 visiting me at the OPD are obese now.
Obesity in children is not just about weight gain as it also leads to a plethora of health complications, including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and even sleep apnea. Obesity can also take a toll on the child’s mental well-being. Timely intervention is crucial, if left unmanaged, can severely impact their growth and overall health.”
Dr. Seema Joshi said, “Every month, I see at least 15-20 children who are overweight or obese due to lack of exercise and junk food consumption. We provide personalized dietary plans as advised by our expert Dietician Anjali Shinde, physical activity guidance, behavioral counseling, and necessary diagnostic services to ensure comprehensive care.”
At Ankura Hospital, we aim to address these challenges with prompt care, treatment, and expertise. Our aim is sustainable health outcomes that benefit both physical and mental well-being, ensuring that children can live full, active lives.
