The collaboration aims to develop aspiring surgeons

The Apollo Simulation Centre, Vanagaram (ASC) has entered into an agreement with Healthium Medtech, a global medtech company to offer Advanced Training in Laparoscopic surgeries to young aspiring medical professionals. The programme will be launched with the Laparoscopic Hernia Masterclass at the already available state-of-art simulation centre at Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Vanagaram.

Laparoscopic surgery is one of the significant media advancements that has enabled day surgeries for quick recovery. This has evolved laparoscopic as a solution for a wide range of conditions that require surgeries in the abdominal cavity including cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder), appendectomy (removal of appendix), advanced procedures for hernia repair and also gynaecological procedures. Laparoscopic procedures are mostly preferred by the patients and the doctors as they help in keeping the blood loss minimal, less scarring, speedy recovery, shorter hospital stay.

Since most of the procedures are complex, simulation offers a way to master new skill sets, by training in the simulation centres. A Laparoscopic Simulator is a minimally-invasive surgical simulation training tool intended for learners and medical professionals alike. Laparoscopic training simulators are tools that can be used in training scenarios focused on laparoscopic surgery, as they demonstrate virtually all major abdominal surgical procedures. With Laparoscopic Surgery Simulators, learners can begin to familiarize themselves with the performance methodologies.

Advanced Laparoscopic Training

State-of-the-art training institutions like the Apollo Simulation Centre have now made it possible to learn and practice advanced surgical procedures using simulation without causing any unintentional harm to patients, to boost the learning curve of aspiring Surgeons.

The endo-laparoscopy simulators are equipped with up-to-date technology to help learners become confident and adept at hand-eye coordination and equipment dexterity. Basic and advanced procedures in laparoscopy can be learnt and updated using the high-tech instruments, using real-time feedback and analytics. The initial courses of Lap. Hernia Masterclass will encompass commonly performed hernia procedures.

Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony Dr Ashok Moharana, Chief Medical Officer at Healthium Medtech, said, “We are delighted to partner with Apollo Simulation Centre (ASC)on this exemplary skill development initiative of training young aspiring medical professionals in critical laparoscopic surgical modalities. At Healthium, we believe in continuing medical education. Through this immersive masterclass, that includes a varierty of training techniques, we look forward to aspiring young surgeons gaining expertise in the area of laparoscopic surgery and developing their confidence in simulated clinical settings. We are happy to collaborate on this comprehensive training in the state of the art settings provided by ASC.”

Dr Muralidharan. M, Vice President, Apollo Knowledge and Director Medical Education, Southern Region, Apollo Hospitals, added, “The course curriculum is carefully designed to upgrade the knowledge through online lectures, hands-on training on dry and harvested wet models, live surgeries, and panel discussions.”

Dr. Rahul Menon, COO, Apollo Hospitals, Dr. Paul Dilip Kumar, JDMS, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Vanagaram, Dr. Premkumar Balachandran, Senior Consultant and Clinical Lead, Apollo Institutes of Hernia Surgery, Mr. Madhuryya Phukan, Vice President Marketing, Healthium Medtech and Dr. Thilaka Muthiah, Clinical Lead, ASC were also present during the event.
