India’s AYUSH services sector supports an estimated 1.76 million livelihoods, with women accounting for 43% of the workforce, according to the Ayush Service Sector Report prepared by the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS).
The report, released during the 11th Ayurveda Day celebrations in Nagpur, estimates the AYUSH services economy at US$36.92 billion (₹3.19 lakh crore) in FY2024-25, registering a 16.91% CAGR since FY2022-23. The sector is projected to expand to US$216–318 billion by 2047, subject to continued development of infrastructure, quality systems, skills, digital capabilities and international market access.
Women’s participation is particularly strong across organised AYUSH services. Women constitute more than 60% of the workforce in spas and wellness resorts, 58% in educational institutions, 57% in day-care centres and 53% in hospitals. More than one million livelihoods are concentrated in local and standalone clinics.
Standalone clinics remain the largest revenue-generating segment, contributing approximately US$16.21 billion, while day-care centres generated US$10.13 billion in FY2024-25. Ayurveda was the largest individual AYUSH system, accounting for US$17.73 billion, or nearly 48% of total AYUSH services revenue.
The AYUSH-based wellness segment recorded a 21.29% CAGR, while yoga centres registered around 75% revenue growth over two years, reflecting rising demand for preventive healthcare, wellness and holistic-care services. The sector also generated an estimated US$1.77 billion in Medical Value Travel revenue in FY2024-25.
The findings highlight the growing contribution of AYUSH services to healthcare delivery, employment generation, women’s workforce participation, wellness and Medical Value Travel, positioning the sector as an emerging contributor to India’s broader Viksit Bharat @2047 growth agenda.
