The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has achieved a major milestone by creating over 93.95 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) and linking more than 105 crore digital health records, making it one of the world’s largest digital health ecosystems. The figures were shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare during the 3rd Meeting of the Mission Steering Group, chaired by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the national digital health initiative and outlined priorities for its next phase, with a focus on expanding interoperability, strengthening digital health infrastructure and increasing citizen participation across States and Union Territories.
Launched by the National Health Authority (NHA) in 2021, ABDM aims to create an integrated digital healthcare ecosystem by enabling secure exchange of health information among patients, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies and healthcare professionals. The ABHA serves as a unique digital health identity, allowing individuals to securely access and share their medical records across participating healthcare facilities.
According to the Ministry, the mission has been strengthened through initiatives such as Model Districts, Model Health Facilities and Aarogya Setu 2.0, while integration with flagship schemes including Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, CGHS, ESIC and Nikshay has further expanded the reach of digital health services.
Healthcare experts said the rapid adoption of ABDM is expected to improve continuity of care, reduce paperwork, enhance disease surveillance and support data driven healthcare planning. They believe the expanding digital health ecosystem will play a pivotal role in delivering accessible, transparent and patient centric healthcare, while accelerating India’s vision of a digitally connected healthcare system.
