Health authorities in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district have placed three individuals who recently returned from Ebola affected African countries under 21-day home isolation as a precautionary public health measure, officials confirmed on Thursday.

According to district health officials, none of the three travellers have shown any symptoms associated with Ebola Virus Disease, nor do they have a known history of contact with confirmed Ebola patients. The isolation measure has been implemented in line with established surveillance and monitoring protocols designed to prevent potential disease transmission and ensure early detection of any symptoms.

Officials stated that the travellers are being closely monitored by health teams throughout the observation period, which corresponds to Ebola’s maximum incubation period of 21 days. Regular health assessments are being conducted to track any signs of fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, or other symptoms associated with the disease.

The precautionary action comes amid heightened global vigilance following recent Ebola outbreaks reported in parts of Africa. WHO has identified Ebola as one of the world’s most severe viral diseases, with outbreaks requiring rapid containment measures due to the virus’s high fatality rates in affected regions.

Health authorities emphasized that there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Chhattisgarh or India, and the public should not panic. The surveillance measures are part of routine preparedness protocols followed for travellers arriving from regions experiencing infectious disease outbreaks.

India’s health system has also strengthened screening, monitoring, and response mechanisms following advisories issued by the Union Health Ministry. Airports, state surveillance units, and district health authorities remain on alert to identify and manage potential public health threats.

Public health experts note that early monitoring and contact tracing are among the most effective strategies for preventing the spread of infectious diseases. The decision to place the three travellers under observation reflects standard international public health practices rather than evidence of infection.

Officials have urged citizens to rely on verified information from health authorities and avoid spreading misinformation. The health department continues to monitor the situation closely while maintaining preparedness measures to safeguard public health.

The 21-day observation period will conclude if the individuals remain symptom free, after which no further restrictions are expected.
