Jaslok Hospital & Research center announced the launch of its Restorative and Regenerative department, the first of its kind in India. The department will offer treatment of psychiatric disease, chronic pain in neurological conditions in the form of non-invasive neuromodulation. It will also offer ortho biologics for various cell-based treatments for bone and joint disorders & platelet rich plasma for orthopedics vascular and cosmetic therapies.

The primary objective of the Restorative and Regenerative department is to restore body functions using fewer complex methods, such as dietary supplements, different bioidentical hormones, vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, probiotics, and “superfoods,” and to develop treatments for organs that become permanently damaged.

Modern medicine typically focuses on either treating a disease or prevention of a disease. The regenerative medicine aims to repair the diseased state of the body by replacing tissue or organs that have been damaged by disease or trauma. Several methods are used to achieve this, ranging from tissue engineering, cellular therapies or use of medical devices and artificial organs. This is a rapidly evolving branch of medicine where large amount of research is being undertaken. This department allows to create solutions for organs that become permanently damaged. The goal of this approach is to find a way to cure previously untreatable injuries and diseases.

Commenting on the launch Dr. Paresh Doshi, Director of Neurosurgery at Jaslok Hospital said, “This is another step towards improving patient care at Jaslok Hospital ensuring that the best form of treatment is provided to the ones in need. Grateful to get this opportunity to launch this first of its kind department with the intention of exceeding all previous standards set by our medical divisions.”

Mr. Jitendra Haryan, CEO of Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre said, “It makes us proud to be the first hospital in the country to launch a department focused and dedicated towards Restorative and Regenerative Medicine under one roof.  At Jaslok we strive to provide the best available sources to our patients to improve clinical outcomes, through improving their quality of life.

In the near future, we plan to introduce neuromodulation therapies and cell-based therapies for improving the outcome and motor function in patients who have suffered from stroke or paralysis especially after vehicular accident.

About Jaslok Hospital:

The Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre is one of the oldest tertiary care, multi-specialty Trust hospitals of the country. In the early 70’s when the establishment of large private hospitals was not common, the institution was conceptualized & endowed to the city of Mumbai by Seth Lokoomal Chanrai. Seth Chanrai came from a family of philanthropists who had businesses in many countries. The family had already supported many small & large projects. Seth Lokoomal entrusted Dr. Shantilal Mehta the task of establishing an ultra-modern centrally located medical center where people of all races and creeds could receive the benefits of advanced health care. Jaslok Hospital is situated at Dr. G Deshmukh Marg, Peddar Road which is a main artery of South Mumbai and overlooks the Arabian Sea. The name Jaslok was derived from the names of Seth Lokoomal & his wife Smt. Jasotibai. Seth Chanrai’s vision was implemented and brought to reality largely by his Brother-in-law Dada Mathradas Assomull. The hospital was inaugurated on 6th July 1973 by the erstwhile Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
