A 45 years old patient who had been previously operated and received a surgical valve replacement 10 years back suddenly started having severe breathing problem and chest pain at his local place he consulted some Doctors who direct him to go to higher centre where his last operation was done but his general condition was worsening rapidly and because of this he was denied treatment at several centres considering that he was a very high risk candidate for further treatment.
In a such serious condition patient traveled for more than 1000 kms to reach Paras Hospital where his treatment was started under supervision of Dr. Bharat B. Kukreti, Additional Director, Interventional Cardiology. With the help of ECHO and other tests it was diagnosed that this artificial valve was not functioning due to clot formation and because of this his lungs was getting congested and patient was going into heart failure and shock. Risk of repeat heart surgery was considered too high in such critical situation so patient was started on thrombolytic treatment which also carries some risk but the team decided to take this calculated risk to save patient. T-PA medicine was used for this treatment and after continuing it for 24 hours patient valve again started functioning.
Now patient is stable and recovering.
