Doctors and Rang De Neela, a pioneering cross-sectoral art and health initiative, teams up with kathputli artists to create awareness in their latest health awareness series, “Threads of Health,” featuring the 26 Kathputlis Concept, curated by Metabolic Sutradhars. This groundbreaking initiative aims to promote awareness of non-communicable diseases and foster positive behavioural changes within society through the creative use of traditional art forms.
The “Threads of Health” series draws inspiration from the captivating Indian folk-art tradition of Kathputlis, where string puppets are used to convey stories and educate on 16 crucial health topics. Leveraging this unique art form, Rang De Neela seeks to engage communities and enlighten society about essential health issues in a culturally relevant and engaging manner.
As part of this captivating health awareness series, Rang De Neela has produced captivating short videos on various health conditions featuring subject matter experts. By blending the art of storytelling with the mastery of kathputli artists, the initiative aims to captivate individuals aged 25 and above, making health education interactive and enjoyable.
“Threads of Health” serves as an innovative bridge between traditional art and public health education. The combination of powerful storytelling and puppetry aspires to leave a lasting impact and enhance awareness of critical metabolic disorders and health concerns, including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, sleep apnea, and more, within communities and society at large,” stated Dr. Rajiv Kovil, Diabetologist, Chairperson at Zandra Healthcare, Co-founder of the Rang De Neela initiative, and Secretary at United Diabetes Forum.
Within Rang De Neela, the Kathputlis are creatively inspired by famous Bollywood characters and several eminent personalities. Esteemed “Metabolic Physicians” such as Endocrinologists and Diabetologists from across India will play the role of “Metabolic Sutradhars.” Collaborating with Kathputli Puppeteers, they will impart health education on 16 topics relevant to society. In one episode, characters resembling Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ajay Devgn portray roles reminiscent of “Geet” from Jab We Met and “Bajirao Singham” from Singham. These engaging sessions aim not only to foster creativity and confidence within communities but also to equip them with the knowledge and tools to take charge of their own health and well-being,” added Dr. Ami Shah, Co-founder of Zandra Healthcare and holder of a Ph.D. in Social Sciences.
“Threads of Health” represents a transformative initiative that embraces art’s compelling influence to empower individuals and communities to lead healthier lives. Rang De Neela is dedicated to making a positive impact on society by promoting health awareness through the amalgamation of art and education.
